MORE ABOUT ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS & WHAT CAUSES WRINKLES

Wrinkles are an unfortunate but unavoidable part of getting older. A lifetime of the same facial contractions, as well as air pollution and sun exposure, are bound to create lines and wrinkles around areas like the mouth, eyes, and forehead. Anti-wrinkle injections, also called botulinum toxin, is approved for use by the FDA to block the nerves causing the repeated contractions in order to achieve a brighter and smoother appearance.

COMMON INJECTION AREAS

Forehead and frown lines. Get a smoother, younger appearance.

Eyebrows. Lift the eyebrow and prevent the brow line from pulling down.

Between the eyebrows. Smooth what’s known as glabella lines or the 11’s.

Corner of the eyes or ‘crow’s feet’. Relax these common problem areas.

Nose. Smooth the horizontal lines on the top of the nose, also called ‘bunny lines’.

Upper lip. Smooth lines on the top lip or relax the muscles in the top lip to reduce a ‘gummy’ smile.

Around the mouth, including ‘marionette lines’ and pre-jowl.

Chin. Reduce lines on the chin or smooth a dimpled chin.

Neck. Decrease ‘banding’, which is the appearance of rings around the neck.

Armpits & hands. Block the nerve impulses to the sweat glands in these areas to reduce severe sweating.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

What are the results?

Injections usually take effect 24 to 72 hours after the appointment and reach their maximum effects in 1 to 2 weeks. The wrinkle-smoothing effects usually last between 3 to 6 months, while the period of excessive sweating can last longer, from 9 to 12 months. You can receive another treatment after you notice a diminishing of the effects.

How long does it last?

Anti-wrinkle injections last around 3 to 6 months. You can book your next appointment after that timeframe to maintain the results.

Do the injections hurt?

The needle used in botulinum injections is very fine, so any discomfort you may feel at the entry of the needle will be minimal. You can also take painkillers beforehand, but we advise against anything anti-inflammatory, like ibuprofen, that can cause excessive bleeding.

What are the risks?

There are no major risks associated with botulinum injections. You may experience facial weakness in the targeted areas and their surrounding muscles or upper eyelid drooping limited to 1:100 after an injection above the eyebrows. Eye drooping will improve over time or be corrected with eye drops.

Is there a recovery period?

There is no recovery period. Patients can continue with their normal routines the day after getting injections.
